Heart For The Kingdom: The Heart Behind It All (Week 1)

Preacher: Daniel Erasmus

Worship:
Song Suggestions:

  • Heart of Worship – Matt Redman
  • Gratitude – Brandon Lake

As you worship, ask God to search your heart and align it with His. Invite Him to do a deep work in your heart that impacts every area of your life.

Check-in:
This series is about heart transformation. Take a moment to share:

  • Where have I felt resistance or discomfort when it comes to money or generosity?
  • What’s one area of my life where I sense God wants to do a heart work?

Synopsis of message:
This week we launched the Heart for the Kingdom series, focusing on how our hearts shape our lives, our finances, and our faith. Jesus taught that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21). The message reminded us that:

Key Themes:

  1. It’s Not About Money – It’s About the Heart – God isn’t after our money; He’s after our hearts.
  2. Giving Reflects the Heart – What we give (judgment, grace, forgiveness, generosity) flows from our heart posture.
  3. God Invented Giving to Shape Us – Giving breaks selfishness and forms gratitude and trust.
  4. Develop Four Heart Attitudes:
    • Deal with a selfish heart
    • Deal with a grieving heart
    • Develop a grateful heart
    • Develop a generous heart

God wants to form in us a heart that reflects His – generous, open-handed, and full of trust.

Scripture Focus:

  • Matthew 6:21
  • Luke 6:37 – 38
  • Matthew 7:1 – 2
  • Deuteronomy 15:7 – 10, 14 – 15
  • Psalm 24:1
  • John 3:16

Discussion Questions:

  1. Heart Check
    • What thoughts or emotions come up when you hear the word “giving”?
    • How does your heart respond to the idea that giving is more about formation than finances?
  2. Selfishness and Grief
    • Have you ever felt regret after giving? What caused it?
    • What helps you overcome selfish or fearful thoughts when it comes to generosity?
  3. Gratitude and Generosity
    • How does remembering what Jesus has done for you shape your generosity?
    • What’s one way you can live more open-handed this week?
  4. Treasure and Trust
    • Where is your treasure currently? What does that say about your heart?
    • What would it look like to trust God more deeply with your resources?

Prayer Moment:

  • Invite God to do a heart work in you.
  • Pray: “Lord, I want a heart like Yours – generous, grateful, and full of trust.”
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you deal with selfishness, grief, and fear.
  • Pray for each person to experience freedom and joy in giving.

Next Step:
This week, I will:

  • Reflect on one area where I’ve been holding back from God.
  • Choose one intentional act of generosity – time, words, resources.
  • Pray daily: “God, shape my heart to reflect Yours.”
