SALVATION

NextSteps_Salvation

SIN BREAKS OUR CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, CAUSING US TO FEAR GOD AND TRY TO LIVE OUR LIVES OUTSIDE OF HIS WILL.

Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” All sin has to be paid for and today you can choose to allow what Jesus did on the cross to be the payment for your sins.

God has already done his part to restore our relationship to Him. He did this by sending His Son Jesus to pay for our sins. Now He waits for each of us to individually accept what He has done for us.

NextSteps_Salvation
  1. Realise that God has not been first place in your life and ask Him to forgive you for your sins. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
  2. Believe that Jesus paid for your sins, and that He rose from the dead and is alive today.
  3. Accept that your relationship with God is not restored by anything you do but on the basis of what Jesus already did for you.
  4. Invite Jesus to come into your life and to be the Lord of your life. You can do this by talking to God. When we communicate with God we call this prayer.

Perhaps you’d like to pray this prayer below:

Dear Jesus, thank you for creating me and for loving me, even when I’ve ignored you and gone my own way. I realise I need you in my life, and I’m sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Saviour.

Congratulations! This is the most important decision you will ever make on your life journey. Jesus wants to have a relationship with us and He’s given us ways to know Him better. As we get to know Jesus, we better understand His plan for us and we can strive to be more like Jesus.

We’d love to journey with you. Click here to download a 15 minute devotional prepared to help you grow in Jesus.

Baptism

About Baptism

Although choosing to follow Christ is a deeply personal decision, it’s not a private matter. Jesus instructed us to go public with our choice. Baptism is an outward sign to all of what has already happened on the inside.

Getting baptised in water is the first step of obedience for a person who has committed his or her life to Christ. We get baptised because we take Christ’s leadership seriously. We also want to follow the example he set, by being baptised himself.

NextSteps_Baptism2

Baptism in the Bible takes place after people have made a conscious decision to turn away from their sin and put their trust in Jesus. Nowhere does the Bible teach that salvation is dependent upon water baptism. The Bible teaches that Jesus gives you the gift of salvation, and being baptised is a response of obedience.

Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt 28:19). See also Acts 2:37-38 and Acts 10:38.

Childblessing

AS WE READ SCRIPTURE, WE SEE HOW PEOPLE PRESENTED THEIR CHILDREN TO GOD IN AN ACT OF THANKSGIVING.

Many times parents brought their children to be blessed by Jesus. For these reasons we like to take time in a few services each year where we, as leaders in the church, pray a blessing over your child and over you as parent/s. Click here to sign up for Child Blessing.

We see examples in the Bible of how parents asked
God to bless their child’s life:

  • Committed

Hannah prayed and committed her child to God’s purposes (1 Samuel 1:27-28).

  • Dedication

Mary had a moment of dedication with Jesus when He was a baby. When Jesus was presented at the temple, two older people of faith both held Him and prayed a blessing over Him (Luke 2:22).

  • Blessed

In Mark 10:13 people were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them (bless them). The people recognised their need to present their children to Jesus. The passage tells us that Jesus rebuked his disciples for not receiving them (Mark 10:16). He took the children in his arms and blessed them.

This is what we believe happens during
a Child Blessing:

  • Act of Thanksgiving

Parents present their young child to God in an act of thanksgiving.

  • God's Best

We, as your leaders and pastors, bless, pray over, and declare God’s best for your child.

Ignite

Ignite is our one year program dedicated to students between the ages of 18-25 that are passionate about ‘Following Jesus and Finding others’.

We are intentional about making ourselves available to God, stretching our comfort zones and growing in our God-given gifts and purposes. We focus on raising strong, Christ-centered leaders through spiritual growth, personal development, gaining practical ministry skills and reaching others in our community.

We put God first and are intentional about growing a deeper relationship with our creator. Being part of the Edge Church team means we have the privilege of being mentored one-on-one by various leaders as well as working through resources together as a group in weekly devotionals.

We strengthen our faith by learning to rely on Him more and being accountable to one another as we journey together. We attend various leadership conferences as well as partner with other churches to increase our growth spiritually, personally and practically.

We love serving and growing our local church. This gives you great exposure into behind the scene operations of ministry and allows you to explore and develop your personal gifts. We believe there is great value in serving and building into all that God is doing in our community and local schools.

OUTREACH & MISSIONS

When Edge Church was formed in the late 1970’s, there was a heart for the kids and youth of the community, people far from God and for missions. If anything, this heart for others has grown and grown over the years. Today, we have the privilege of partnering with 9 reach partners serving people far from God, all over the world! At Edge Church, we will always be on a mission to reach people far from God.

God moves powerfully through your prayers. Why not pray with us for each of our missionary/outreach partners – God can do more than all we can ask for or imagine!

“And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8 NLT

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Boost in Summer Greens

Due to the current pandemic Boost is currently not active in its usual form.

Boost is afternoon homework support for primary school children in the Summer Greens area. Edge Church is big on the next generation and believes education is one of the fundamental ways to changing lives. Our primary focus is children in the Foundation Phase (Grades 1 to 3) who need homework support.

Boost happens every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:15 to 4:30 p.m. during the school term. We start the afternoon with juice and a healthy snack and then begin homework support, working one-on-one as much as possible.

Do you have a passion for kids and education – and loads of patience? Are you available for two hours on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoon? Then consider signing up! Boost volunteers can help weekly or fortnightly, for one or all 3 afternoons of the week. We do however, ask you to commit for the term. There are no age or academic restrictions and you don’t need to be a partner at Edge Church. However, police clearance is necessary to be a Boost volunteer.

We regularly need donations of stationery, reading books and second-hand school clothing. If you would like to give financially, please make a deposit into the Edge Church account with “Boost” as the beneficiary reference.
