Planted and Flourishing in God’s House (Week 3)

Preacher: Daniel Erasmus

Worship:
During this week, listen to the song Gratitude (Gratitude – Brandon Lake | Moment). Let us offer our praise and thanksgiving to our King.

Check-in:
What was the most pertinent point of Sunday’s sermon for you? Did you feel challenged by something mentioned in the sermon that you would like to share?

Synopsis of message:
Pastor Daniel spoke about the importance of being planted in God’s house and encouraged us to be a part of what God is doing in His house. Our church is built on the cornerstone, Jesus. (Ephesians 2:20). Everything that we do is about Jesus. In Psalm 92:12-15, we see four promises for those who are planted in God’s house:

  1. Our lives will flourish no matter what is happening around us.
  2. Our faith can grow strong. When our faith is strengthened, it will result in stronger marriages, families, schools, workplaces, neighbourhoods and communities. We will live out the call “Go and make disciples of all nations.”
  3. Our impact can be eternal. We can all be used by God and for His Kingdom. We can do something that will have eternal impact and leave a legacy.
  4. Our testimony will reflect God’s faithfulness.

Pastor Daniel shared three practical steps that we can take to be a part of what God is doing –

  1. Be in church
    • Find a local church
    • Be committed to the local church (“You can be committed to Church but not committed to
Christ, but you cannot be committed to Christ and not committed to the church.” Charles Spurgeon)
    • Attend church (Attending church should be a delight, not a duty. Psalm 122:1) [“Church attendance is as vital to a disciple as a transfusion of rich, healthy blood is to a sick man.” D.L. Moody]
  2. Go all in
    • Join a serve team, especially with our new service starting.
    • Decide to be a bringer. Invite your neighbours and friends. There is room in God’s house for others to also experience God’s love. (Luke 14:23)
  3. Be ready for God
    • This means that our hearts would be soft and tender to be receptive to what God is saying to us.

Discussion Questions:

  1. The promises of God that come as a result of being planted in a church are rich and abundant. Was there a particular promise that encouraged you? Or one that stood out for you?
  2. We are also called to ‘Go all in’ for the kingdom. Have you found your service area or been more active in inviting others? How has this impacted your relationship with God?
  3. The last point raised in the sermon was to be ready for God. Looking back to last week’s sermon, Pastor Stephen mentioned how we should engage with the Word to see more about the character of God and what God is trying to tell us in His word. Have you had some highlights this last week in your quiet times as you seek what God is trying to say to you?

Check-out:
Our church is on the move! Have you found your service area or is there a ‘next step’ you are considering. Take time this week to pray and dwell on these and seek God’s guidance.
