Rebuilding our Discipleship (10h30)

Speaker: Byron Chicken

Worship: During your devotional time or at life group listen to or play this worship song “Whole Heart (Hold Me Now) by Hillsong United” Reflect on the words as you stand before God in complete surrender.

Check-In: Share what next step you have taken or going to take in the next few weeks to grow in your love for God.

Bible Readings: Matthew 5: 38-41 (NLT); Luke 14:25-27 (NLT); Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT); Mark 12:28-31.

Preparation and Discussion for Group Time:

  1. Read Matthew 5: 38-41. How are you carrying the BURDEN for the world, your community, and your family?
  2. Read Luke 14:25-27. There is a cost to following Jesus, there is a laying down of self, giving up our own way and will. What is God asking you to lay down as you surrender your life, your plans, and your will to Him?
  3. Who is a disciple?
3.1. One who is with Jesus, learning to be like Him.
3.2. One who is learning from Him how to lead my life as He would lead my life if He were I.
3.3. His apprentice in Kingdom Living.
The CROSS symbolises death, death to the life we planned and thought we would live. But picking up our cross is the very best thing we could ever do – it’s a worthwhile price to access the life God has designed and planned for us – following Jesus. Share with the group what picking up your cross looks like as you desire to become more like Jesus.
  4. Read Matthew 11:28-30. Our relationship with Jesus is like a YOKE (like the oxen were yoked together). Share with the group where you are in your relationship with Jesus (being yoked with Him) and how you can develop a deeper intimacy with Him.

Check out and Prayer: Share with the group a next step that you will take to YOKE yourself more intimately to Jesus, carry the BURDEN to love your neighbour, and pick up your CROSS to follow Jesus wherever He asks.

Love God:
Memory verse: Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
