Week 5: Built on Jesus & the Word of God
Worship: Listen to this song from Sunday throughout the week or spend some time in worship at group Build My Life by Housefires. Acknowledge that He is our cornerstone and with us no matter what we are facing.
Check-In: Share with the group any next step you took this past week or if you are encouraged to take your next step of Water Baptism.
Bible Readings: Anchor verse: Matthew 16:18 (NIV). Read the following Scriptures: Acts 2:42; Ephesians 2:19-20; Psalm 1:3; 2 Timothy 3:16; John 6:63; James 1:21; Isaiah 55:8-11; Job 23:12 and Deuteronomy 8:3
Preparation and Discussion for Group Time:
- “The Bible does more than unify us, it grows us” – Terran mentioned that spending time in the Word daily was a key factor in growing our faith. Discuss honestly with the group whether this has been true for your life.
- He mentioned 5 different characteristics of the Bible during his message namely The Bible as a river, as the breath of God, as a life-giving seed, as rain, and as food for our souls. Discuss which of these are most challenging for you and why?
- “Every day manna awaits our collection.” Share with the group if there have been moments in your life where you have received this manna as you spent time in His Word. What has that looked like for you?
- Ephesians 2:19-20, “but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” Share with the group how you are practically committing to build your life on Jesus, the cornerstone, and His Word this week.
Prayer time: Ask the Holy Spirit to grow your desire to read His Word daily and to allow it to grow your faith.
