Called (MB)

Purpose for the session: To answer the call to follow Jesus.

Bible readings: Ephesians 4:1; Romans 8:28; Jude 1 & 2; Matthew 4:18-22; 1 Cor 1:26-27 (MSG); Matthew 11:28-30.

Worship: Listen to the song “Christ is enough” by Hillsong. Pray back to God your response of faith.

Check-In: What feelings surface with you when you hear the phrase “you have been called”?

Group Discussion:

  1. Read Ephesians 4:1, then take time to be still, wait and listen. Share what God is saying to you from this Scripture.
  2. In Matthew 4:18-22 Jesus calls the disciples to leave their nets and follow Him. What might God be asking you to step out in faith to do?
  3. The disciples were not “the brightest and the best” among the people yet Jesus specifically called them to follow Him. In which area of your life do you feel that you are not prepared enough to follow Jesus?
  4. James quoted this profound message: “God doesn’t call the prepared. But He calls those who are prepared to follow Him!” Share with the group what you feel your next step is in answering God’s call to follow Him.

Check out and prayer time:
Each person to take a quiet moment to surrender to God what you need to leave behind to move forward and answer His call to follow Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to begin the work in your heart that only God can do. Pray for one another for courage to step out and do what you believe God is calling you to do.

Others:
This week ask the Holy Spirit for opportunities to speak to your world about your life and what God is doing in you as you seek to encourage others to answer the call to follow Jesus.

Going deeper during the week:
Read the Scriptures above again. God doesn’t call to be heard, He calls to be followed. Journal what God is saying to you from these scriptures.
