Edge Church is a multi-site church – one church meeting in several locations. This has allowed us to expand our impact – making significant advances in following the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) and bringing the church closer to where different groups of people are.

In 1975, a few families in Edgemead came together with a vision to influence their community. They began by meeting as a church in homes, starting children’s ministry and launching small groups. Today, Edge Church is still on the same mission – to point people toward Christ and the difference he makes in our lives.
Over the next 8 years, they met in various venues on Sunday God provided land to build their church facility. When the first vision offering was taken up, the handful of families who were there gave sacrificially to put up the first building.
After the opening of the building, the leadership took a bold step. They took up God’s call to reach beyond themselves by sending a young couple, Pedro and Barbie Erasmus, into the mission field in north-east Namibia. It was a great step of faith and sacrifice.
Pedro and Barbie, and their now 3 children, were called back to South Africa to serve as ministers at Edgemead Assembly of God. This was another bold step of faith and sacrifice on behalf of the church’s leaders.

The church saw growth and God challenged the leadership about the vision for the future. He clearly spoke to them through Isaiah 54:1-2, “Enlarge, expand, add an addition, stretch”. So in the year 2000 in a step of obedience, courage and again, sacrifice for the future, they made the decision to expand the building. The motivation was wrapped up in Isaiah 54: Love for God, sacrifice for others to come to know Him and obedience to the steps of faith he called us as Edge Church to take.
Out of God calling us to expand our influence to other communities, the Edgemead congregation undertook another building project – the addition of a balcony, main foyer and various upgrades. During that time, Ratanga Junction and school halls were used as alternative venues. The other significant event that happened was a name change to Edge Church.
Barbie Erasmus was appointed the congregational pastor at Edgemead, and Grant Stevenson as congregational pastor at Melkbos. And more extensions – this time into the communities of Atlantis and Summer Greens
In February 2012, we made a commitment to beginning an intentional journey of discipleship by growing in our love for God and others. This shifted gears for us, as we chose to pursue growth in our relationship with God and others as our single focus.
We celebrated the official opening of the upgraded children’s facilities at Edgemead, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the first Edge Church facility built in Edgemead in 1983. This project was fully funded before it began, which is something the leadership give God praise for! And we look forward to the much more that God has for us in 2014, above and beyond all we could ever ask or imagine.
